Back on boat 1 today and we headed for the Aikoku Maru. Today I was going on a little mission to try and find the Bow section of the ship which was blown in half forward of the bridge superstructure by a 500 pound bomb during operation hailstone.
Following the debris field in 200 meter arcs. There was a lot of HMS Seabed for the dive, I came across lots of small debris on the bottom bot nothing significant. The closest I got was I found one of the anchors and an anchor chain. But my bottom time was drawing close to an end. I am not convinced that 60 odd meters of ship has been completely blown apart. The debris was nowhere near the amount of metal...... The search continues. Everyone else had a great dive.

Day 1 30 July 2011
Day 1 of diving and we all just took it easy and relaxed.
Boat 1 which comprised of
Simon Mitchell
Bruce and Lynn Partridge
Mischa Temple
Did their shake down dive on the Fujikawa Maru
Boat 2
Andrew Simpson
Tony Howell
John Hynes
Trevor Muddle
Did their first dive on the Rio De Janeiro Maru
and Boat 3
Kevin Brown
David Webster
Nick Clarke
and Me!!
We did the Heian Maru first up. Viz was pretty average which gave us opportunity not to feel too bad if we spent the majority of the dive penetrating the wreck!!!
Kevin spent his first dive sitting on the boat. Not because he was giving the trip leader jip but because he came across a faulty wire on his solenoid. Being a good disciplined diver Kev opted out of his first dive in truk ( good on ya Kevin!! it must of been hard to sit this one out!!!) Anyway we had a cracker dive!!!!! Sorry Kev!
All in all we spend 101 minutes in the water. A great first Dive!
The second dive we did was the Fujikawa Maru. Probably the most prolifically dived wreck in the lagoon. It really is a cracker! Normally the first place I head off is the engine room but having been in there about 9 times now Dave and Kevin had a look. With all the rain the viz was pretty average too but I managed to get some plant shots in!!!

Swimming in the Torpedo hold on the Heian Maru (notice the long narrow openings)
The Heian Maru was a sub supply vessel so on the promenade deck you can admire sub attack periscopes.
